<  Agresta Gianrico

Gianrico Agresta was born in 1981. After Classical High School, he attended the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan spending two semesters abroad at the University of California Santa Barbara and at the Hochschüle für Bildende Kunste in Braunschweig, Germany. During the same period he also studied music at the Civica Scuola di Musica in Milan.

After finishing his studies he participated in several collective and solo shows in and around Milan. He later specialized in illustration which introduced him to other channels and an audience of children. He has worked with schools, institutions and theaters, creating workshops and shows where music and painting often intermingle and highlight each other. He also works as a musician. Regarding painting, for nearly fifteen years his work was figurative, characterized by more or less direct references to painters from different eras and styles, united by their sense of color and composition, but above all by the calibre of their poetics. As a result of his studies,Gianrico Agresta's work has explored the parameters of pictorial language, with a growing interest in meta-language. Music has also allowed him to view painting as a universe of signs whose meaning is self-contained. His interests have moved towards a linguistic absolute, striving to reach the apex of visual experience. His most recent work is the result of an inner dialogue established through the analysis and re-interpretation of his previous work, revisitations "devoid" of previous subjects. Direct experience, transformed into memory, was transferred into the concrete reality of the paintings themselves, now further explored through abstraction. The images have been reworked into synthetic forms of absolute values of composition and color.
